In spending indulgent amounts of time with no music, mind you on unrealistic fight scenes, the movie squanders away time which would have been better spent on characterization yes, even in a martial arts movie. My favorite scene is the one which sees both the male lead and Tien in a position of taking care of another an old man and the girlfriend, respectively. However, though the encounter is transformative for him, Lady Whirlwind Tien is not changed by her taking care of the girlfriend- she still seeks revenge.
Although the film is as a whole unsatisfying, there are a few salvageable ideas that may inspire better projects, such as the idea of a woman as the best protector of women and the superiority of a woman in battle. The title of the film at least this particular title "Lady Whirlwind" is, sadly, much more enticing than the movie would prove.
Even "two dimensional" would be giving it too much credit.
