ESXi is a Hypervisor. Hyper-V is a Hypervisor. You do not need 2 hypervisors. Pick one and go from there. The R2 release caught me off guard too, if I would have waited two more months I could have deployed a R2 hyper-v server with R2. Kinda suprised that I can't upgrade those with a service pack to R2.
